H
ow lovely to wake up to the sound of rain after an exceptionally long dry summer.
Not quite so lovely to remember the car roof had decided not to go up when I pushed the button and I hadn't managed to get around to getting it fixed! Well, these things are sent to try us but nevertheless I have spent a pleasant weekend putting away the summer clothes, rooting out the cardies and boots and deciding what I need to buy to keep warm and cosy this winter.
A cardigan in Spanish is una rebeca. Rather strange for those called Rebecca
but a useful and necessary-as-winter-approaches article of clothing.
Of course we also need our sudaderas - sweat shirts
jerseys - sweaters,
chaquetas - jackets
abrigos - coats and impermeables - raincoats
When you go shopping for clothes you may need something bigger - más grande
or something smaller - más pequeño, longer - más largo, or shorter - más corto
When looking at shoes and boots you may be asked ¿Qué número?
What number? as in what size shoe or boot.
For women it’s usually a number in the thirties : trienta y seis, 36.
treinta y siete, 37. Treinta y ocho, 38. treinta y nueve, 39.
For men more often than not it's a number in the forties - cuarenta y tres, 43.
cuarenta y cuatro, 44. cuarenta y cinco, 45. cuarenta y seis, 46.
To say something is too big Es demasiado grande.
Too small - demasiado pequeño
Too narrow - demasiado estrecho,Too wide - demasiado ancho
As I'm sure you all know : I like it is Me gusta
And I'll take it is Me lo llevo.
Enjoy getting ready for winter. It's just around the corner.
Hasta la próxima - Until next time.
