Movies to watch out for

by Josh Gordon
Starring Jennifer Aniston,
Jason Bateman

Rom coms starring Jennifer Aniston have been having a torrid time at the Box Office recently and her latest, The Switch, has positively bombed in the US. Which is a shame because this is a lot better than the previous outings.

Jen plays Kassie, a New York singleton who wants a baby and finds a  handsome sperm donor (Patrick Wilson) prepared to supply the necessary.  Her best friend Wally (Bateman) is a New York stock trader who is a pessimistic anxiety-ridden introvert who has been secretly in love with Kassie for years but has never plucked up courage to tell her.

During her tacky "pregnancy party" Wally drunkenly staggers into the bathroom where the sperm sample has rather casually been left lying around, and decides to switch it for his own - and rather conveniently forgets all about it. Kassie reappears in his life seven years later with her son Sebastian in tow. And guess what,he is a pessimistic anxiety-ridden introvert... cue for some funny scenes between Wally and the boy (well played by Thomas Robinson). Hmm, wonder how it all ends.... Juliette Lewis and Jeff Goldblum are able sidekicks so no real reason not to give it a chance.

Director Gordon has baulked at making Wally unattractive - and therefore not fanciable by Kassie - and so did not pose the question of importance of looks over substance. The only thing unattractive about Bateman are his awful sweaters so he should have plucked up the courage to ask the girl out.
