Re: your news story and last week’s letter. How much lower can the mayors of various municipalities stoop in their quest to get money? Now the mayor of Mijas is going to fine anybody caught feeding a feral cat or an abandoned dog.
Over the years, SOS has trapped, neutered and released a large number of street cats all over Mijas at our expense. You can imagine our delight at a meeting a few years ago with the councillor for medio-ambiente when she promised money in the following year’s budget for a specific neutering programme organised by ourselves and some Mijas vets.
Surprise, surprise nothing was ever forthcoming resulting in hundreds, if not thousands, of unwanted cats being born. Now anyone who tries to help these poor animals is going to be fined and as for the comment that people should contact animal rescue groups, words fail me - we are all full and get no town hall help. It seems to me that the main requisite for being a councillor/politician, both local and national, is the total inability to see beyond the end of your nose.
