Martin Delfin has allowed himself to be taken in by Israeli propaganda. The aid ships would not try to bring arms into Gaza for they knew that they would be stopped; if there had been arms the Israelis would certainly have displayed them to reporters.
What small arms Hamas does receive will be smuggled in much less openly. What the aid convoy was trying to achieve (apart from its success in putting Israel in the dock) was to bring to Gaza cement which is desperately needed to rebuild the houses the Israelis keep destroying. Israel's policy, however, is to keep life in Gaza as uncomfortable as possible in the hope that the people of Gaza will get rid of Hamas. Of course, they are achieving the exact opposite but that is the politics of the Middle East!
