The very next day after my picture of the tattered flags outside the Ayuntamiento in La Cala appeared in The News, they put up four nice new ones!
Well done Mijas Town Hall!
Editor says: Someone at Mijas Town Hall must read The News.... and don’t the new flags look splendid?

Is it possible for you to put a little mention of thanks in the paper for the couple who did the clairvoyance evening for SOS, Keith & Fiona Surtees? It was a great evening with over 60 people attending and SOS – the animal charity who run a dog refuge – raised €580 which helped with one of their vet’s bills.

We are so lucky to have Salon Varietes putting on musicals of professional calibre at local prices. Oliver! opened on Friday 14th and is absolutely delightful. The show is another Two Peters miracle, how they achieve the discipline in rehearsals and backstage to produce to this standard and still remain friends with everyone is beyond comprehension.
Fagin is brilliant, Bill Sykes is frightening, the kids are excellent, the sets are as good as could be expected given the limitations of space and manpower. What can I criticise? Nothing in the performance. I would have liked to see Fagin's lair much more cluttered but of course they need room for the dance routines and the space off stage for storage must already be full to overflowing. There was a bookcase on stage which seemed to be incongruous at times.
As far as the performers are concerned they are all delightful, with a fabulous voice on Mr. Bumble and Alex Avery, as Nancy, absolutely nailed it, bringing the audience to tears with 'As Long As He Needs Me'. Altogether a delightful and riveting show, I'm going back for another serving on closing night, Sunday 23rd of October. Don't miss it, this is a rare treat.
