Buckingham Palace is to hold an exhibition of diamonds to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The Royal Collection exhibition will take place in August and September this year when the Palace will show the many ways in which diamonds have been used by British monarchs over the last 200 years.
The exhibition includes an unprecedented display of a number of The Queen’s personal jewels?–?those inherited by Her Majesty or acquired during her 60-year reign. Many of these extraordinary stones have undergone a number of transformations, having been re-cut or incorporated into new settings during their fascinating history. Amongst items on show will be the Girls of Great Britain Tiara, said to be the Queen’s favourite piece – a wedding present in 1947 from her grandmother Queen Mary who was given it in 1893.
