A cruise ship belonging to the Holland America Line, which was turned away from Casablanca in Morocco last Saturday because the 1,564 people on board were gay, ended up in Malaga for the day.
RSVP Vacations, which organised the cruise, said Morocco had confirmed the visit to Casablanca and that the last minute refusal was surprising because the Moroccan authorities had been very tolerant of gay tourists in the past, despite its anti-homosexual laws.
A company spokesman suggested that the refusal to allow the “New Amsterdam” to dock may have been influenced by the fact that Saturday was Gay Pride Day, which was being celebrated the world over.
