The National Policemen who found a Polish tourist in a house in Manilva last week said they had never seen the victim of a kidnapping in a worse physical condition. The 39-year-old man, identified only by his nickname El Gordo (Fatman) told a judge that he arrived in Spain on July 8th and went to Cadiz to stay with friends, who asked him to take some money back to Poland.
When he refused, they threatened him and he finally accepted €24,000 from them. The money disappeared and his friends refused to believe him when he said it had been stolen. Three Poles and a German then held him for seven days, beating him and burning him with cigarettes and injecting him with the so-called truth drug.
It was the Polish police who raised the alarm. They had been tracking a criminal gang to which one of the kidnappers belonged. When the National Police broke down the door to the house, they found the victim lying on the floor, unable to speak. The four kidnappers were arrested shortly afterwards.
