Malaga one of the most deforested

Once so densely forested that squirrels could travel from one province  to another other without ever touching the ground, Malaga is now one of the most deforested provinces with less than 30% of its surface covered by trees. According to the Environment Ministry this is partly due to climate changes over the centuries, but human beings have been more to blame in the past few decades. In Andalucia only Huelva province has managed to preserve large areas of forest, which cover about 60% of its surface.
