Torture by police revealed

The Coordinator for the Prevention and Denunciation of Torture (CPDT) has identified 45 cases of torture in Andalucia involving Local and National Police, the Guardia Civil and prison officials.

In its 2009 report, the CPDT said 18 cases had been identified in Sevilla province, 16 in Cadiz, five in Cordoba, three in Malaga, two in Huelva and one in Almeria. A spokesman said the CPDT had no information about torture cases in Jaen and Granada provinces because of lack of reporting resources in those areas.

He said one of the cases has made it to court so far, another 31 are still under investigation and in two other cases the policemen involved were found not guilty.
