Police arrest mother after finding body
The Guardia Civil have arrested the mother of the five-year-old German boy who was found dead in the Sierra del Castillo, Cordoba, last Saturday, five days after he disappeared. She faces a charge of negligent homicide.
The mother and child had arrived in the area from their home in North Westphalia in Germany a week earlier for a camping holiday and were seen fishing in the Puente Nuevo reservoir on the Monday. The following day the mother was found in a bruised and dehydrated state near her car which had broken down, and taken to hospital in Cordoba.
There was no sign of the boy. An empty water bottle and two backpacks were found near the boy's body. Police said it looked as if the woman had been trying to get help when she collapsed near the car but had been unable to tell rescuers where she had left her son.
