Eleaza Galea was commissioned by the town hall of Almachar in Axarquia to produce a sculpture in memory of all the people who lost their lives during the civil war. A separate commemoration was made last year to one of the mayors of the period when his remains were discovered.
As an artist Galea wanted to make a sculpture that would bring people a feeling of peace and the feedback from the people of Almachar said just that. He is happy about how well his work was received and is keen to point out that as an artist is politically and religiously neutral.
The memorial is made from limestone with swallows in steel, all having a look of softness, particularly beautiful when the sun reflects off the sculpture.
Galea is a member of the Andalusian International Artists group and has many up coming exhibitions this year including the first in Galleria Lucia (Fuengirola. See AIA website for information) or www. eleazargalea.com.
