Bin men to strike

Workers for the GCS private rubbish collection firm in Benalmadena will go on strike on January 5th, 6th and 7th if an agreement cannot be reached between them and management before then. The workers are protesting against the company's decision to cut their wages by 30 per cent, pointing out that the local council – which pays the company – has upped the rubbish collection tax by 300 per cent. They also oppose the company's plan to make them pay traffic fines arising from the fact that many of the collection trucks are not insured or have not passed the ITV.
