During a visit to Benalmadena last week, the head of the Junta de Andalucia's Innovation and Science department, Antonio Avila,
announced that the €2 million project to build an ITV station in the town would soon be published in the Junta's Official Gazette, after which construction would go ahead. Mayor Javier Carnero announced that it would be built on land in the Santangelo Norte area, near the A-7 exit in Arroyo de la Miel. He said bidding for the project should take 10 to 12 months. The mayor said the three-lane station would be able to handle some 45,000 vehicles a year. As there were only 30,000 vehicles in circulation in Benalmadena and Torremolinos, he said this would absorb some of the ITV demand along the coast, taking some of the pressure of the ITV station in Malaga. Mr Carnero said the San Pedro de Alcantara station would be opened before the summer, and that ITV stations for Cartama and Mijas were pending execution.
