The economic crisis has kept many foreigners at home in recent years and forced more Spaniards to spend their holidays at home as well.
As a result foreign tourist figures for the Costa del Sol dropped but Spaniards made up the shortfall, until this year. Available figures show that so far this year there has been a 5 per cent rise in foreign visitors to the Costa but a similar number of Spanish tourists have stayed away.
More Britons and French are coming than in previous years but there were 20 per cent fewer Italian and Portuguese visitors.
However, a majority of the Spaniards who can still afford a holiday this year are heading for Andalucia.
