Benalmadena’s deputy mayor Francisco Salido has said the local council is holding talks with property developers aimed at allowing them to rent out unsold houses to needy families.
He said there were at least 3,000 empty flats and houses in the town, while whole families were living on the street after being evicted or because they can’t pay the going rent. He said the project would not only help people in need but would stop the empty buildings from deteriorating further.
Sr Salido did not name the companies or the sort of rent the council has in mind.
