Convent shows Commitment to Persons with Disabilities

In the run up to International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Saturday 3rd December HE the Governor, Sir Adrian Johns, reaffirmed his commitment to providing facilities at the Convent for persons with disabilities. The past twelve months have seen the implementation of several projects aimed at making the Convent more accessible to persons     with disabilities. These include widening doorways and installing two stair-lifts to facilitate wheelchair access, as well as converting toilet facilities for use by persons with disabilities. The Convent also recently hosted a tour specifically for visually impaired persons.

The tour was conducted by Pepe Rosado, who made a “touch model” of the Convent in order to enable the visitors better to understand the layout of the building and locations of the rooms they were visiting.

Sir Adrian commented “We are committed to improving facilities here for persons with disabilities, and are exploring options for further projects.

Gibraltar is a generous community and makes considerable efforts to improve the quality of life of those with disabilities. But I’m sure that there’s more that we can all do in this regard.”
