Look, Bring or Borrow a Book!

Gibraltar Arts and Crafts  Centre (1st floor Casemates) is participating in the Book Drop scheme which was initiated by the Ministry of Culture recently. You bring in your unwanted books and borrow others. You can borrow several books and there is no charge; you only need to check books out, as you would in a public library. Books can be returned to other ‘hotspots’ at the Youth Hostel and Ministry of Culture.

All are welcome to call in and bring or borrow a book any time 10am until 5.30 Monday to Friday and 10am till 2pm Saturdays.

Carla  keeps the books in order, so they are easy to browse. She says the scheme is proving very popular: more and more people are bringing books in and increasing the range of titles on offer.

Given the limitations of Gibraltar’s public library, the opportunity to borrow and swap books is an excellent community resource and is set to go from strength to strength!

There is also an extensive reference library of contemporary arts and crafts books and magazines which have been donated to the centre. You can call in and look for new ideas and techniques. A photocopier is available if you wish to take a design home.

The photo above shows a participant of the ‘Knit and Natter’ group (which meets on Tuesdays at the centre) perusing a book of knitting designs by the famous Haute Couturier of knitting; Kaffe Fassett.

Gibraltar Arts and Crafts is run by its members, on a voluntary basis. It is a friendly and welcoming place and houses a treasure trove of lovely and unique items of locally made art and craft, which you can see on your way to the ‘book corner’

You can also check out art and craft workshops or classes held there.
