Lady Johns has thanked the Gibraltar community for the generous support that they had given to the Convent Open Day.
Over 1200 people attended the Convent last Saturday, 7 July, and the event raised over £9000 for the Gibraltar Diamond Jubilee Trust Fund. Lady Johns also held a ceremony at the Convent yesterday to draw the winning raffle tickets and present prizes to the winners of the various children’s competitions.
The raffle prizes were a VIP Champagne Dinner donated by the Rock Hotel, a Planter with Plants and a Crown-shaped Cake donated by Momy Levy. The winning tickets were numbers 393, 563 and 362 respectively. Notary Public James Neish QC and representatives of the media were present at the draw.
The winners of the children’s competitions (pictured with their families) were:
Painting Competition – Katie Elizabeth Orciel
Picture Quiz – Bella Allan & Amber Prescott
Quiz – Eva Gonzalez & Stephen Fisher
The final question in the quiz was “What would you have in your dream garden?” The answers on the two winning entries were “Pool, Flower and an animal shelter” (Eva) and “Water feature and fish” (Stephen).
Lady Johns said “I’d like to congratulate the winners of our various competitions. I’d also like to thank everyone who supported this event: those who provided sponsorship, those who helped with the organisation or on the day itself and, of course, those who turned up to enjoy the event. We said a year ago that we wanted to do something really special for the Diamond Jubilee, and we’re pleased to have achieved that – and to have raised so much for the Gibraltar Diamond Jubilee Trust Fund. A lot goes into a day like this – we’ve already started planning for next year!”
In the course of supporting a worthy cause and having a good time, those attending the Convent Open Day consumed 500 scones and a selection of cakes and purchased the entire 2012 stock of Convent Garden Orange Marmalade!
