Health minister jostled

David Cameron met healthcare professionals to discuss proposed health reforms on Monday along with Health secretary Andrew Lansley. Lansley was confronted by a group of around 40 angry protesters against the reforms who said that key health partners had been excluded from the talks as he arrived at Downing Street for the meeting. He was pushed and jostled by the group who tried to prevent him from entering the building.

One of the demonstrators, June Hautot screamed at him: “Don’t you dare lie to me” after he had told her that there would be no privatisation within the NHS.

David Cameron said of the incident: “Reform is never easy, but it is vital to reform our NHS because I want it to be there looking after every family in the country and doing a good job in the future. Choice for patients is a good thing: making sure that GPs, not bureaucrats, are making decisions, that’s a good thing. This is about improving and financing the NHS for the future.”
