More than 20 British citizens were arrested in Ibiza over the weekend in the biggest operation since a crackdown last September when the Spanish police captured the ring leaders of a drug cartel originating from Liverpool.
The Guardia Civil began the raids on Friday in a joint operation with the UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) aimed at dismantling British gangs who overrun the island each summer. It is believed the trade in class A drugs is controlled by rival British gangs from Manchester and Liverpool who send out drug dealers to supply clubbers during the holiday season. The raid followed weeks of surveillance by local undercover officers.
