1000s apply for 380 Ikea jobs
Ikea has received 55,252 applications for the 380 jobs it advertised in June for its new store in Sabadell, Barcelona, which is due to open towards the end of this year. Training courses for successful applicants in sales, check-out, customer service and restaurant posts will start soon.
Another 50 people will be hired through outside companies for security, cleaning and transport services. The Sabadell shop is the third one to be opened by Ikea in Catalonia – the other two are in Badalona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat – and the 15th in the whole of Spain.

La Roja’s drinking criticised
Ignacio Calderón, the general director of FAD (Foundation for Help against Drug Addiction) said last Friday that he was “surprised” and “concerned” about the way members of the national football team were filmed drinking beer during their victory celebration on an open-air double-decker bus through the streets of the capital last week.
He said he was happy about their victory in the Eurocup but said images of their drinking clashed with FAD’s current campaign warning about the dangers of alcohol.
