Destruction of coast goes on

Nearly 8 hectares of coastline are destroyed each day by what Greenpeace called “unstoppable” construction in its latest annual report on the state of Spain's coasts. Nearly 44% of the population live along the coasts, which represent only 7% of the country's total territory. Greenpeace said the construction blight has extended to areas that were once considered the best preserved – Murcia, Huelva, Almeria, Rias Bajas, Cantabria and Asturias.
The most destroyed coastlines are in Catalonia (40%), Valencia (38%) Andalucia (26%), Cantabria (23%) and Murcia (22%).
