A brief history of fish and chips

Marlow's Fish and Chip Restaurant and Take-away is situated in Los Hidalgos, La Duquessa Manilva, and has been frying top quality fish and chips for the past 2 years. The Marlow family were the first to introduce proper English style fish and chips to this area, when in 1966 Steve's father decided to open a fish and chip restaurant in Fuengirola.

He discovered that at that time it was as good as impossible for a foreigner to open a business in Franco's Spain and decided to go down to Gibraltar and opened Irish Town Fisheries, which was the 1st dedicated fish and chip restaurant and takeaway on the Rock. Unfortunately Franco caught up with Mr Marlow and closed the border in 1969 which changed the situation completely and soon after they sold up and returned to Leeds and opened  Marlow's there. It was a great hit, winning the 1997 fish and chip shop of the year award.

In 1998 Steve decided to move to southern Spain after selling Marlow's in Leeds and after involvement in several restaurant projects decided to open Marlow's in La Duquessa, where he has continued with the unique family formula of supplying best quality Cod and Haddock and only Maris Piper potatoes for the authentic chip shop taste.

They also serve Ribs as well as BBQ'd and Southern Fried Chicken and, during the winter months, a succulent roast between 1 and 5pm each Sunday for €8.75. Marlow's is a modern air-conditioned restaurant and take-away, with a large sunny terrace (covered when it is too hot) and is open from 1pm until 3.45pm and 6pm until 10pm weekdays and 1pm until 8pm Sunday.
