Casa KonTiki in Los Boliches, Fuengirola, is a clean and cosy restaurant on the second street behind the Yaramar Hotel.
We had the jumbo fish and chips and, I have to say, they were the best fish and chips we’d tasted in a long while with a huge piece of succulent, perfectly fried cod covered in a lighter-than-air batter, and home-made chips plus garden or mushy peas. All this for €19.95 for two, including a bottle of wine between us – truly good value. If you don’t fancy fish, no matter as there is a wide variety of other dishes to choose from including steaks, burgers, English breakfasts, curries, liver and onions and a choice of menus at different prices.
The €5 meal deal menu is served between 10am and 6pm and consists of a main meal and a drink, with 12 different meals to choose from plus a vegetarian choice – the list of good, freshly cooked food choices on this and the other menus available is endless! The puddings are good too and, having eaten such a large first course, we plumped for sharing an ice cream that resembled a knickerbocker glory (yes, it was that big). No wonder Casa KonTiki is always busy!
There is an extensive wine list together with a choice of beers, spirits and soft drinks as well as liqueur coffee, ordinary coffees and teas.
John the owner of Casa Kon Tiki who is locally known as “John the Fish” had a fish and chip shop in England and moved to Spain10 years ago. He soon opened a cafe in Los Boliches and then moved to a small restaurant – which he quickly grew out of by serving fresh and good quality food at reasonable prices – and is now at Casa Kon Tiki. John fillets his own fish to ensure no skin or bones and if you come to Casa Kon Tiki early in the morning you can watch a professional at work. The restaurant has over 100 covers including the lovely sun terrace. Inside is fully air conditioned and there are two 46-inch TV screens and an open kitchen.
The friendly and helpful staff – including the famous “Chris the dish”– are on hand to ensure you have a relaxed and comfortable dining experience while enjoying freshly prepared food made to order especially for you.
