I had the pleasure of tasting delicious homemade lasagna at The Mooring this week – thanks to a curious incident.
Earlier in the week The Mooring was buzzing with customers, when three additional ones came in. Everyone was in festive spirits and there was a great atmosphere. After about 40 minutes the two men and the woman ordered take- aways – advertised as the home-cooked specials.
The owner then had to pop out to buy silver foil trays to accommodate the order – normally their Meals On Wheels Service provides dishes on proper plates that are then returned, but as these were not regular customers foil trays were needed.
The trio left with their homemade orders of lambs liver with onions, gravy and fries, chicken and mushroom pie and a portion of lasagna. About half an hour after the customers had left, The Mooring received a phone call from the woman. While she acknowledged that the liver and the pie were obviously homemade, she insisted that the lasagna was not. She said she had seen the lasagna being carried into the restaurant in a shopping bag!
Clearly the woman had mistaken the bag containing the silver trays bag as a “shop bought” lasagna. She became quite offensive and accused the staff of being charlatans and liars. Then she promised to spread the word to bring the restaurant into disrepute.
After tasting The Moorings’ lasagna and witnessing it being cut from a kitchen tray, I can assure everyone that it was most definitely homemade and I’m sorry for the woman with such undeveloped taste buds and malice on her mind.
The Mooring, provides excellent fayre of wonderful home cooked meal at reasonable prices and their new Meals On Wheels provides a great service. Their friendly staff would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. To book your table with them check out the advert on page 19.
