Classic play at Cervantes

El Jardín de las Delicias, also known as The Garden of Delights, will be playing in Teatro Cervantes. The play was written by Fernando Arrabal in 1967, inspired by the magnificent painting by Hieronymus Bosch. It tells the story of Lais, the woman protagonist who desires to break her chains of oppression to meet the sorcerer Teloc, who will allow her to see her future. Behind this plot, there is a veiled criticism of religious dogmatism.

The work, which moves between the mythical and the abstract, attempts to define the concept of liberty, examining the essence of the physical, rational and spiritual. Like the painting by Hieronymus Bosch, Arrabal’s work can be interpreted as an allegorical tale about the spiritual transformation of the individual impelled by desire.
The performances will be on from the 20th until the 21st of January, for tickets contact Teatro Cervantes on 952 224 103.
