More than three thousand people turned up for the celebrations in respect of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, in Mijas recently.
The events were overseen by the Consular General of the Republic of China, Mr Dong and the Mayor of Mijas, Ángel Nozal plus the Chinese Association of Andalucia and the Association of the Community of Qingtian in the South of Spain.
The event was held to reinforce the relationship between the two countries, both socially and economically and particularly for the three hundred Chinese citizens living in Mijas.
There were colourful groups of dancers, acrobats, musicians and a display of dancing by 25 ballerinas from the group Jin Fans from the University of Pedagogia of Pekin. Although the official Chinese New Year date isn’t until Monday, 23rd January, the group had agreed to perform before returning to China to celebrate the New Year with their families.
The Consular General thanked the Mayor of Mijas for his invitation to the celebrations and for his part, the Mayor of Mijas presented the Consular General with a metal reproduction of the façade of the Mijas Town hall before a tour of various diverse areas of Mijas Pueblo including the bullring and museum.
Both agreed to keep their connection alive and commented on the enormous potential of the Chinese emerging markets.
