The Southern cricket league hots up

Mijas CC vs Costa del Sol CC. Mijas won by 5 wickets.

It was a scorcher of day at the Cartama Oval on Sunday when these two teams took to the field. CDS won the toss and elected to bat, opening with Alan and Azam who was quickly and unfairly dismissed LBW off a fat inside edge onto his pads. A few overs later Alan too lost his wicket LBW and as with CDS’s last game it was the top order, with the exception of Tony 25, who just couldn’t get into the zone and the middle order having to step up, with Phill once again making 35 and Deen, 16 runs, playing a fine selection of shots. CDS were all out for 162.

Then it was the turn of Mijas with Matt and Dave opening the batting. They slowly and steadily started to add on the runs at a comfortable rate but two hours spent at the crease combined with heat of the day saw them both off just after the drinks break after a 70 run partnership. The chase was on and Tom’s two wickets in the later stages of the game helped to boost the hope of a CDS victory but even more wickets by Imty, Phill and Jody couldn’t stop the Mijas victory march with Paul sensibly playing out his innings to help his team to the target with only 2.4 overs to spare. As with every game between these two rivals, it could have gone either way. Mijas won this time by five wickets.
