Rooney defiant in sex storm row

Wayne Rooney flies back to the UK today (Wednesday) amid reports that he is not planning to make any attempt to save his marriage following vice-girl allegations at the weekend.

Rooney, 24, was in Basle last night with the England team, as they played their European Championship qualifier match against Sweden. It has been reported that while he has been with the squad his attitude has hardened - he believes that "boys will be boys" and that wife Coleen needs to "get over it".

Prostitute Jennifer Thompson claimed in a kiss-and-tell in Sunday tabloids that the soccer star had paid her £1,200 a time for sex romps they had while the England striker's wife was pregnant. On one occasion, it has been claimed, another girl was present and the media are now  waiting for her - and possibly other girls - to come forward with their stories. The Rooneys had planned to go to a family christening at the weekend but pulled out. And Coleen discovered the news while having her hair done for the occasion - her husband texted her  to tell her about the stories while she was in a hairdressing salon.

Coleen picked up 10-month-old son Kai, left the family's £4.5 million Cheshire mansion and fled to the security of her parents' home after the sex storm broke. The house in Formby has been under siege and her grim faced parents have not commented.

Wayne has been in trouble before when he admitted visiting a Liverpool brothel in 2004. Coleen forgave him and the couple have since carefully crafted their wholesome, family image, earning millions in the process. His key sponsors, Nike, Coca Cola and EU Sports, had pledged their support but that was before latest reports that the star is not inclined to take criticism from Coleen or her family. Now his multi-million pound sponsorship deals may be at risk while advertisers and marketing men assess the damage.

Yesterday Coleen had still not revealed what the future now holds for the couple - although friends have been quoted as saying that she may not stay with the star. And other reports suggested she has already told Rooney that she does not need him.

Coleen, "style ambassador" for Littlewoods, has built her own fashion-based career and is worth £8 million in her own right. Rooney earns £100,000 a week with Manchester United and Brand Rooney, built around the couple, is worth around £33 million.
