Windy conditions at La Cala for C.O.G.S.

A short trip to La Cala for C.O.G.S.’s last competition of 2011 with a  gusting wind to make the playing conditions very difficult, but it did not affect all players as some scores showed. It was my last event as this year’s captain, in a year I have enjoyed very much. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve such a great bunch of guys, who love their golf, but also enjoy the social side afterwards with a few beers.  Special thanks personally must go to Andy Macfarlane Secretary and to Dave Haworth Treasurer for all their support they have given me,  and to Terry Birtles for his organisation of the Par Three competitions.

This year has had some up and downs – the ups have been great and the downs have been quite challenging at times – but I think all in all the year went well.  I would also, on behalf of all members, like to thank Ian Thorne and Russell Wood of Travel Services Spain for sorting out the playing venues for this year and we wish them all success in 2012.

Back to the day at La Cala. Nearest the pin in two shots was won by Charles Randell on hole 3. Nearest the pin was won by Nig Bowler on hole 16. Longest drive was won by Ian Thorne on hole 17. Team score with 87 points was won by Gerry Owens, Adam Robinson, Ian Holden and Nick Carwood.

For the main comp of the day, the individual title –in third position with 34 points was  Charles Randell, in second position with 35 points was  Brian Millwood. You should have seen his face, a smile a mile wide, he has been close so many times. Well done Brian, cut at last. In first position with a great score of 41 points was  Adam Robinson.  Well done Adam, in those winds you  played your socks off.

On Saturday night we made the trip by coach to hold our end of season dinner and dance and prize giving at El Chaparral. There was a good turnout of some forty-two players, wives and guests attended and a great time was had by all. Thanks to all the staff there and to Alan for the music.
Annual Prize Awards results as follows. Best player off 28 handicap was won by Brian Millwood. Best player any 6 from 11 was won by  Dell Allwood.

For the golfer of the year this year’s winner was  Charles Randell. In second position was  Andy Macfarlane. And in third place was  Russell Wood. Congratulations to you all from all the members.

Well that’s it my  year over, thanks again for all the support I have received and let me say again, a pleasure to serve such a lovely bunch of guys I love you all.

Best of luck for next year’s captain elect and see you all on the 9th January 2012 at eight o’clock for our AGM at the Bistro.
