The £2 billion whiplash racket

Last Thursday, the House of Commons Select Committee demanded that the Government take action to curtail the incredible growth in whiplash claims following car accidents. If there were really as many people in Britain suffering from whiplash (an injury to the neck following rapid acceleration or braking) as are making insurance claims for the condition, it would not be possible to go anywhere without encountering people shuffling around sporting neck braces. In one 12-month period alone, 432,000 people made claims. That is one for every 140 Britons.
