Mijas Bowls Club Ball and Chain 2011
This year Mijas Lawn Bowls Club managed to fit the Ball and Chain into their schedule. It was held from the 3rd to the 5th of October.
The weather for this time of year was still very hot and all the participants did well coping with the heat. One Plate semi-final was between Margret and Harry Tristram, and Chris Jewson and Alan Cox, Chris and Alan winning. In the other semi Sheila and Roy Graveling played Barbara and Tony Land – Barbara and Tony played well and were the victors. The final then was between Barbara and Tony and Chris and Alan. This was beautifully played by Barbara and Tony who won convincingly.
In the first Ball and Chain semi, Terry and Maureen Barret played Roberto and Carol Wright. In this game Terry and Maureen went through to the final. In the second semi Val and Tony Thornton played Rob and Geraldine Robinson – in this game Rob and Geraldine won through.
The final between Rob and Geraldine, and Terry and Maureen started well for Terry and Maureen but Rob and Geraldine soon got the measure of the green and came through to win.
Both winning couples played extremely well and deserved their titles. The competition was sponsored by Restaurant Valparaiso and the Hotel Tamisa Golf and the prizes were awarded by Roberto Wright who thanked all who entered and gave out the prizes to the winners on behalf of the sponsors. Rob Robinson said it was a shame that more people did not enter the competition this year. The Ball and Chain is one the longest running competitions and Mijas BC will continue to try to fit it in to the busy bowls schedule as it is a very enjoyable experience for couples.
