Mijas Masters 2012

This year for the Mijas Masters we were lucky with the weather having only one day of rain and the rest of the time the sun was out and it was glorious. It turned out to be a good competition with some great games and we were fortunate to be sponsored this year by Lloyds International Bank. There were 47 mixed pairs and 34 mixed triples, and the games were played in a good atmosphere with everyone seeming to enjoy both the weather and the bowls.

In the final of the triples, was the team from Benavista B.C. Malcolm Greenwood, Barry and Wendy Pemberton played the team from Santa Maria B.C. Gordon and Margaret Kane and Murrey Johns. This game started well for Benavista  who won the first few ends but the Santa Maria side came up and by the 12th end it was 15 for Gordon‘s team and 10 for Malcolm’s.  Malcolm’s team was not able to catch up and Gordon, Margaret and Murrey took the title.

In the pairs final there was Dudley Calder and Dorothy Pilsmoor from Miraflores B.C., against Pam Cole and Chris Rycroft for Mijas B.C. This game was a wonderful game for the spectators who were quite vocal in their support and admiration for this match. It was one of the closest games with the score at 12 ends being 12 for both teams and at 15 ends it was 15 for both teams and at 18 it was 18 for both, so they had to have an extra end. It was a wonderful game and Dudley and Dorothy won by one wood. There was a big cheer for both teams, it was a memorable match, well done to both teams for the excitement a really fine game to end the Mijas Masters.

The prizes were given out by Clayton Hopley representing Lloyds International Bank. who thanked all the team from Mijas who helped make such a good event and Roberto for organising the competition. There was a lovely buffet provide by the club and Carol Wright, who organised the kitchen and bar for the event.
